Opportunities at Custom Folkestone:
Here at Custom we thrive on creating a dialogue as well as an amazing food experience, enhanced by the unique location and exciting ever changing menu. We’re looking for vibrant personalities, inspired individuals who share a passion for Custom’s ethos.
We do things a little differently here, so whilst training and tons of previous restaurant experience would be really valuable, these roles won’t fit in to a traditional template so this is not a strict requirement. We are looking for people who are interested in working in a fluid way, being part of the development of Custom as a completely new type of business - one which is responsive, kind and creative with its staff, its community and its environment.
New roles will start with a 3 month introductory period, at the end of which we'll work together to lock down a contract and terms of employment that work for us all in the longer term. These are year-round positions, although we anticipate that the summer months will be particularly busy so extra hours may be available.
TO APPLY, PLEASE EMAIL CHERRY WITH A BRIEF NOTE ABOUT WHAT INTERESTS YOU ABOUT ROLE. AN UP-TO-DATE C.V. WOULD ALSO BE HELPFUL: HELLO@CUSTOMFOLKESTONE.CO.UK
KITCHEN ROLE - CREATOR OF YUM:
At Custom we reject the hierarchical model of an ego-centric, high stress kitchen. Our chef, Cherry Truluck, is looking for someone to collaborate with in the kitchen. To begin with, you will work alongside Cherry in our open kitchen doing menu-planning, food prep and service. Over time, you will take on a 'head chef' role, taking control of the day-to-day running of the kitchen. You will also be involved in sourcing ingredients and communicating with our suppliers and members of the community through our bartering programme. Our menu changes every week, so you will need to be flexible, imaginative and passionate about seasonal eating. We work with fish/seafood and vegetarian food, so we are looking for someone who is a bit of an all-rounder with a great palate and an eye for simple but beautiful presentation.
We are also building up a labour exchange initiative as part of our bartering programme, so will soon have volunteers working with us in the kitchen. You should be comfortable with the idea of working with less-skilled learners who might be neuro-diverse or have learning or physical disabilities.
HOURS: 3 days per week including weekends and evenings - to be negotiated
PAY: £18K pro rata, 5 weeks holiday (3 weeks must be taken in January)
BENEFITS: 10% staff discount outside of your working hours, free staff meals
EQUALITY AND DIVERSITY:
Custom Folkestone C.I.C. is committed to developing, maintaining and supporting a
culture of equality and diversity in our team. We are actively seeking applications
from people of all backgrounds but especially from BAME applicants that are
underrepresented in our workforce and sector.
